About us

Figurehead Theatre is the collaborative duo of theatre-makers Josh Dodds and Lucy Stewart from Glasgow, Scotland. We develop and perform new semi-devised theatre that is grounded in oral storytelling, formed through collaborative workshopping and animated by sound and music.

We endeavour to create work that is resonant and playful, that engages with the breadth of Scottish identity, the nature of memory and acts of communing to present textured portraits of people, places and the histories that shape them.

Our work uses minimalist staging, colloquial dialogue and shifting sonic palettes to create intimate, involving worlds that leave space for the audience to bring their own thoughts and feelings.

We stage work both in Scotland and internationally and have presented work at the Wee Theatres Festival, the Alasdair Cameron Festival and have had our most recent show programmed at the 2025 Prague Fringe Festival.

All our performers play an active role in creating our work and contribute to our collaborative spirit.
